Group mixing drives inequality in face-to-face gatherings

Abstract Uncovering how inequality emerges from human interaction is imperative for just societies. Here we show that the way social groups interact in face-to-face situations can enable emergence of disparities visibility groups. These translate into members specific having fewer ties than average (i.e., degree inequality). We characterize group sensor-based data sets and present a mechanism explains these as result mixing group-size imbalance. investigate sizes affect this inequality, thereby uncovering critical size conditions which minority emerges. If larger size, it be well-connected, cohesive group; if smaller, cohesion widens inequality. Finally, expose under-representation rankings due to dynamics propose reduce such biases.
